“I’m like the terminator.”
The first full length trailer for Taika Waititi’s new film Hunt for the Wilderpeople dropped last night. The film premiered early this year at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival to positive critical reception. This is Waititi’s first since his massively underrated vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows. If Waititi’s directing stint on Flight of the Conchords didn’t showcase his talent for comedy well enough, What We Do in the Shadows certainly did.
Hunt for the Wilderpeople looks to be no different. Its a film about a kid by the name of Ricky (Julian Dennison) on the run from authorities with his foster uncle Hec (played by the massively talented Sam Neil) and their dog Tupac.
I’m a big fan of Waititi’s work, and I’m glad to see that he’s had a chance to make another small budget indie-comedy film before his career makes the jump to big budget releases with Thor: Ragnarok. Unfortunately Hunt For the Wilderpeople does not have a release date in the United States yet, but hopefully that is rectified soon.
