There has been a lot of buzz for these two Marvel superheroes lately. With Tom Holland’s Spider-Man finally being unveiled in the newest Captain America: Civil War trailer and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher making his MCU debut next week in season 2 of Daredevil, these two characters have been the topic of numerous conversations.
Interestingly enough, it has surfaced that these two actors actually made audition tapes together to land these beloved roles. In a recent interview with NY Daily News, Bernthal revealed exactly what went down:
“We were making tapes from Ireland in the process of getting him cast in Spider-Man and then he and I made a tape for The Punisher… During this independent movie that we did in Ireland we were constantly making tapes for Marvel — just acting together.”
I think its great that these two made tapes together to land their respective roles. Having each other to work off of in auditions certainly lent well to their performances, and the fact that they both were cast is just a testament good that tape must’ve been. Sadly, its unlikely that these characters will ever get to interact in the MCU, due to Marvel trying to distance the TV side of the MCU and the film side. These tapes are probably the closest thing we’ll ever have to a meeting between Spider-Man and The Punisher. Hopefully one day Marvel will release them. According to Bernthal, it isn’t likely:
“These tapes definitely do exist, you can call Marvel and ask for it, but that’s like breaking into Fort Knox.”
Maybe in a 3 phase encompassing boxset?
One can hope.
