And hope for the DCEU raises once again.
Shocking absolutely nobody, CEO Kevin Tsujihara announced at the Warner Bros. CinemaCon panel that Ben Affleck would direct and star in The Batman (love the definite article in the title). This honestly came as a surprise to no one, as was never really a matter of “if”, but more of “when”.
Ben Affleck’s Batman garnered the most positive reaction of Batman v Superman, with the general consensus being he was the best part of the film. After the box office disappointment of the film, it comes as no surprise that WB would want to get the wheels turning on the film, and turn Batman into the focus of the DCEU.
I’m really excited about this news. Affleck is a fantastic director and after seeing what he did with The Town, I can’t wait to see the directorial sensibilities he brings to The Batman. Not only will he direct and star in it, but it has already been confirmed that he has penned a script for the film as well. I may be wrong, but this may be the first time in which a person has written, directed, and starred in a super hero movie. This is totally unprecedented, The Batman is being written and directed by the Batman himself! Classic Batman.
If I had to bet money on it, it would be that The Batman is the untitled DC film slated for 2018. At least that’s what I’m hoping.
