As I reported as a rumor earlier today, the official title for Sony’s Spider-Man reboot is none other than Spider-Man: Homecoming.
I’ll admit, at first I was apprehensive of the title, but after giving it some thought I have to say it’s really grown on me. It works on multiple levels. Homecoming, as in the school dance, helps give emphasis to the focus the film will have on Peter’s high school life. It’s been stated multiple times that Marvel is aiming for sort of a John Hughes vibe, and I think this title perfectly encapsulates that.
It also highlights the fact that Spider-Man has finally come home to Marvel, where he belongs. The title sounds triumphant, and makes this Spider-Man feels like the definitive Spider-Man that I think we are all expecting him to be.
Take a look at the official logo of the film below, though I’m not a big fan of it:
Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters July 7th, 2017.
