I’m pretty sure this trailer had more dialogue than the entirety of Only God Forgives.

The first trailer for Nicolas Winding Refn’s latest film The Neon Demon has finally been released. I love almost everything Refn has put out (yes, even Only God Forgives), so I’ve been following this film’s development for quite some time. To finally see a trailer for makes me a tad giddy, especially after the fan posters that I mistakenly reported as real were released.

This trailer showcased the usual suspects in all of Refn’s films: beautifully colored stylized lights and cinematography, a slow moody atmosphere with small explosions of extreme violence, and synth music. It was about what I expected from this trailer, but I don’t think that takes anything away from it.

Elle Fanning looks like she’s going to do a good job in the role of a reluctant model. This trailer had almost a Black Swan vibe to it, but I think the film holds a lot more surprises than it let’s on. Refn has described it as a horror film after all. I’m not really sure what to expect from the plot of this film, but based on this trailer it seems like it goes to some pretty strange places. It certainly looks creepy.

Christina Hendricks makes a small appearance in the trailer, having already appeared in Refn’s film Drive. She is a really talented actress (I absolutely loved her in Mad Men) so it’s nice to see her here. Keanu Reeves is also set to appear in this film, yet he is absent from the trailer. I wonder what the reason for that is, and what it says about the role his character plays in the film. He is probably the most marketable actor appearing in this film after all.

Check out the trailer below:

Synopsis:

When aspiring model Jesse moves to Los Angeles, her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has.
