Keaton may be taking up the wings once more.

A report from Variety today stated that Michael Keaton was in talks with Marvel to join Tom Holland in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming. While this is still a rumor and in no way shape or form confirmed, Variety tends to be pretty accurate.

For discussion’s sake, I’m going to go ahead and buy into this rumor. If this is true, then I support it 100%. Keaton is a fantastic actor, and I would love to see him join the MCU. Considering the report yesterday that Vulture would be making an appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming, it would be a little ironic if Keaton went from playing one Birdman to another.

As entertaining as that notion is, I doubt he would be playing the Vulture. That report stated that he would most likely NOT be the main antagonist of the film, and if Marvel was truly going after Keaton for a villainous role,  they aren’t going to waste him on a secondary villain.

With that being said, I’m not exactly sure who he could be playing. If I had my choice I would have him pegged as Norman Osborn, and play a sort of background villain for Spider-Man throughout the series. I don’t think they would have the full on Green Goblin in the very first film.

If he is playing the main villain for the film, then I honestly have no idea who he could be playing. Keaton is such a talented actor though that he could probably pull off any role Marvel throws at him, so this is exciting news nonetheless. While I’m crossing my fingers for him to play Norman Osborn, I wouldn’t be at all upset if it turns out he is playing Mysterio or something comparable.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7th, 2017.
