I can dig this.
Yesterday we got our first look at director Antoine Fuqua’s (Training Day, The Equalizer) remake of The Magnificent Seven in the form of a few screen grabs of the film. Well, today we got our first full length trailer for the film and I have to say, it’s pretty good.
It doesn’t look like it’s a must see film or anything, but it looks like there is fun to be had in this film. The trailer set’s up a similar plot to the original film, as there doesn’t look to be any major deviations. At least that I remember, it’s been years since I’ve seen the original. We do get to see Chris Pratt in full cowboy attire acting the part of a gunslinger, so there’s that.
I don’t think this film will be groundbreaking by any means, and looks to lean more on the side of popcorn action flick rather than traditional western, but I don’t think that is a bad thing necessarily. With a script from True Detective writer Nic Pizzolatto, I’d say this film certainly has some potential.
The film has a stacked cast to begin with, with Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, and Vincent D’Onofrio all playing members of the seven. All of them are consistently great in whatever movie they are in, regardless of quality, so I’m sure it will be worth a watch just to see there characters interact. While I’m not jumping up and down in excitement to see a remake of The Magnificent Seven, this looks like it quite enjoyable. Count myself as cautiously
