Surprising no one.

In October of 2014 Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige laid out Marvel’s slate of films for phase 3 of their MCU. Since then, many additions have been made. Spider-Man: Homecoming was added to their slate once it became official that Spider-Man would be joining the MCU. This initially pushed back one of their other upcoming properties, Inhumans, back to July of 2019, after Infinity War.

Marvel has made a few other additions since then, adding a sequel to Ant-Man titled Ant-Man and the Wasp to July of 2018, and shuffling other dates around a bit. But Inhumans always remained a question mark. I always thought it was odd that instead of capping of their three phase encompassing Infinity War storyline with Inhumans. The lack of news surrounding the project did answer any of my questions either.

Well now it appears that Marvel is rethink their plan, as Inhumans has been taken off their slate completely. Here’s what Feige had to say about Inhumans in an interview with Collider:

Since we made our initial phase three announcement, we added Spider-Man, which was a big joyous coup for us. We added Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was a big fun continuation of that story for us. Walt Disney Company has announced an Indiana Jones film for right around that same time. So I think it will shuffle off the current date that it’s on right now. How far down it shuffles, I’m not sure yet.

So, Inhumans is still happening, it’s just being pushed back. This news actually made me happy. I’m looking forward to Inhumans, but I think it should act completely separate from Infinity War. Pushing it back probably means pushing it back to phase 4 of the MCU, and I’m all for that.

Now that Inhumans is off the slate for the time being, here is the schedule for the upcoming MCU films:

  • Captain America: Civil War – May 6, 2016
  • Doctor Strange – November 4, 2016
  • Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 – May 5, 2017
  • Spider-Man: Homecoming– July 7, 2017
  • Thor: Ragnarok – November 3, 2017
  • Black Panther – February 16, 2018
  • Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 – May 4, 2018
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp – July 6, 2018
  • Captain Marvel – March 8, 2019
  • Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 – May 3, 2019

P.S. Inhumans doesn’t sound like a word anymore.
