If you hated this title’s guts, boy are you in luck.
Back when the entirety of Marvel’s phase 3 slate was announced, and it was confirmed that Infinity War would cover two films, many thought that the film would follow the tradition of many other two parter films and act as one giant film split down the middle. I personally thought this as well, and was sure that Infinity War Part 1 would end in a cliffhanger.
But then Marvel clarified things, and stated that Infinity War Part 1 & 2 would be two complete, separate films, contrary to popular belief. It appears that Infinity War directors are rectifying this assumption with a title change:
“It is misleading,” Anthony Russo told Uproxx in a new interview.
Joe Russo added, “The intention is we will change it, we just haven’t come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. And, yes, that is a scoop: we will retitle them.”
So, there you go. Say goodbye to that two parter. Infinity War seems to simply be a place holder for now. There are rumors that the first film will be very Thanos heavy, and focused on him obtaining the infinity stones scattered across the universe, almost similar to the comic book Thanos Quest, but that would be a ridiculous name for a feature film. It sounds like an old arcade game from the 80s.
If it were up to me, I would name the first film Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet and the second Avengers: Infinity War. But it’s not up to me, so I’ll stop talking out of my ass. What would you title the next two Avengers films? Are you excited by the fact that they will be two totally separate films? Let me know in the comments below.
