After months of rumors and short lists, the new Han Solo has been found. A report coming out of Deadline confirms that Hail, Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich will be taking up the vest in Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Han Solo spin-off Star Wars film.
While I’m still not a fan of the idea of making a young Han Solo film (we already had that in Episodes IV-VI), I do really like this casting. Ehrenenreich was one of the best parts of Hail, Caesar! and I feel like he will be able to pull off the sarcastic wit of Han Solo quite well. He’ll never replace Harrison Ford, but it’s certainly not the worst choice Disney could have made.
The film is meant to act as a prequel to A New Hope, and will serve as an origin story for the iconic smuggler, and detail how he and Chewie came to be such close friends. The film is currently in preproduction, confirmed by co-director Chris Miller sending out this tweet for annual Star Wars Day “May the 4th”:
