The Ryan Coogler/Michael B Jordan streak continues.

The Hollywood Reporter has officially confirmed that Michael B Jordan has signed on to join the cast of Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther. This marks the third time in a row Coogler and Jordan will have collaborated, with past films being Fruitvale Station and Creed. Coogler has yet to direct a film without Jordan, and it looks like Black Panther won’t be breaking that streak.

THR is unsure of who he will play, but they hear he will be the villain. I find this news odd as I had assumed that Andy Serkis would reprise his role as Ulysses Klaue. Klaue was last scene getting his arm cut off by Ultron in Age of Ultron, an obvious nod to his comic book counter part. Klaue is a known Black Panther villain, so it’s surprising to see that the villain for Black Panther’s solo film will be someone else.

If I had to make a guess as to who Michael B Jordan was playing, I’d say it’d either be Killmonger or White Wolf. Killmonger was one of Black Panther’s earliest villains. His family was banished from Wakanda to the United States, so Killmonger pretty much turns himself into Batman to battle Black Panther. White Wolf is T’Challa’s adopted brother, who eventually attempts a coup to take control of Wakanda. Both of these would be really cool to see and bring an interesting dynamic to the film. Personally I’m hoping for White Wolf, but I have a feeling it’ll be Killmonger, especially with his ties to Klaue.

Humorously, this marks the second Human Torch to join the MCU. In other news, I guess so much for that Fant4stic sequel with the same cast. The world wept.

Black Panther releases February 16th, 2018.
