The return of Birdman?

From Batman to Birdman to possibly other bird-man, it was previously reported that superhero alum Michael Keaton was in talks with Marvel shortly before he apparently dropped out, but don’t go chasing any waterfalls yet.

According to Deadline, Keaton was recently back in the running before officially sealing the deal. Keaton will appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming as the film’s main villain, The Vulture. While I personally saw Keaton as more of a Norman Osborn, Keaton playing Vulture is still a fantastic casting choice. Plus, endless Birdman jokes! That definitely won’t get old immediately.

This isn’t the only Homecoming news today, as this story dropped shortly after Joblo dropped a scoop confirming the another villains for the film:

“We can confirm that not only is The Vulture in the film, but he is, in fact, the main villain. But, he’s not the only bad guy in the mix. The Vulture will be aided by none other than The Tinkerer, who will help him build his suit with recovered Chitauri tech from the Battle of New York.”

Tinkerer is a natural addition if Vulture is the main villain. Those two often go hand in hand, which will avoid the over crowding of villains that has plagued Spider-Man films of the past. I like the idea of Tinkerer retrofitting Chitauri tech, ties the film into the original Avengers quite nicely.

I am surprised at no mention of Norman Osborn however, who I assumed would play a minor villain in this film, as more of a behind-the-scenes antagonist. Still have my fingers crossed!

While Vulture has never been one of my favorite villains, I’m excited about the prospect of getting two totally new villains for Spider-Man’s latest on screen adaptation. Plus, the Vulture was the first official villain Spider-Man ever faced off against in the comics, so that’s a nice touch.

See anything different about that Spider-Man costume?

“Well, it looks like we’ll be seeing more old-school signature Spidey features, as Stark will also be supplying the classic Web Wings from the comics that will be able to deploy as needed.”

So not only are we getting Spider-Man’s first official villain, we are getting Spider-Man’s first official costume! I really wasn’t expecting Marvel to go in this direction. We’re getting classic Spider-Man baby, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

So we got two villain confirmations, Keaton joining the cast of the film, plus a scoop on the new costume. Good day to be a Spider-Man fan.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7th, 2017.
