The DC superhero film has found a new director.
About a month ago The Flash lost it’s director. Seth Grahame-Smith was set to helm the project for his feature film debut, but soon after the disappointment that was Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he was let go by Warner Bros. Smith appeared to be the first casualty of the panic caused by BvS as an attempt to course correct the DCEU, followed by naming Geoff Johns as the co-head of DC Films, and giving the boot to BvS producer Charles Roven. And now the shoes for The Flash have been filled.
Dope director Rick Famuyiwa has been confirmed to direct the fastest man alive. I’m in love this news, Dope is a fantastic film, and I think Famuyiwa’s sensibilities will lend perfectly to a Flash film. The way Famuyiwa was able to balance comedy, drama, and character work makes him a perfect choice to direct The Flash.
I was worried that DC was going to pull a Man of Steel/Batman v Superman with The Flash and make it into a dark and gritty film, but choosing Famuyiwa as a director has renewed my hope for a FUN Flash film. He’s got a great lead in Ezra Miller as Barry Allen, plus rumors that the film will be a buddy cop movie between Flash and Cyborg, I’d say this project is shaping up quite nicely. There may yet still be hope for the DCEU.
The Flash hits theaters March 16th, 2018.
