Hopefully that means a continuation of Wonder Woman’s theme.
I’ve been pretty critical of Batman v Superman over the past few months, but the one thing that deserves all the praise I can throw at it is the film’s score, composed by Junkie XL, AKA Tom Holkenborg. Outside of Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Batman, Holkenborg’s score for the film was arguably the best part of the film. The composer rose to prominence with last year’s Mad Max: Fury Road, which also had a fantastic score. Well, it appears Justice League director Zack Snyder knows when he’s struck gold, as Junkie XL is set to return to score Snyder’s next super hero epic.
This is great news in my opinion. I’ve loved all of Junkie’s scores so far, and his collaboration with Hans Zimmer on BvS was surprisingly unique for a superhero film. The themes he composed for Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Lex all stand out from one another, and given enough time I can see some of those themes becoming iconic. I’m excited to see what sort of sound he brings to the fresh faces we’ll meet in Justice League, most notably The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg.
Junkie has also worked on the soundtracks for Deadpool, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and 300: Rise of an Empire, and is currently set to compose the score of The Dark Tower.
In case you needed a reminder of how awesome Junkie’s Batman v Superman score was, here’s Wonder Woman’s theme:
