This is going to be the best Batman film ever.

There has already been a rumor going around that Ben Affleck’s upcoming Batman film will feature all of the villains, but in what capacity remained unknown. But thanks to a rumor coming out of Batman-On-Film, we may finally have an answer, and oh boy is it a good one. Note, this should be taken with a mountain sized grain of salt.

Grain taken? Nice, let’s get on to the rumor. It reads:

According to this rumor, the solo Batfleck Batflick would involve Batman being locked up in Arkham. For what reason? I have no idea. For how long? No idea on that either. But, it does jibe with the buzz about “a lot of Batman villains” possibly being included in Mr. Affleck’s solo Batman film.

Yes please. This sounds like the Batman movie I’ve been waiting for my entire life. The concept sounds eerily familiar to both the classic Grant Morrison Batman story Arkham Asylum: A Serious House On Serious Earth and the hit video game Batman: Arkham Asylum. While Affleck has already gone on record saying that the script he is co-writing with the renowned comic writer Geoff Johns will be a original story, he didn’t rule borrowing elements from other Bat-stories.

For those uninformed, Arkham Asylum is the facility in which all of Batman’s most dangerous and loony villains are held once he lays the smack down on them. The movie largely taking place in Arkham pairs well with the rumor of The Batman featuring a whole host of Bat-villains, as would give an excuse for a large number of them being present, without the need for extended set up and exposition.

I really hope this ends up being true, as it would feel like such a breath of fresh air in the superhero genre. We just had a trilogy of Batman films where he saves the entire city multiple times, it would be smart to scale back the scope of the film and tell a more intimate and smaller story. A film focused on Batman being locked up in one single institution surrounded by his greatest foes would be something completely different than the Batman films of yesteryear.

This sounds essentially like Dredd but with Batman, and if that pitch doesn’t automatically sell you than I don’t know what will. How exactly Batman winds up in Arkham remains unknown, but there are multiple possibilities. Maybe Batman gets trapped escorting The Joker to the facility a la Arkham Asylum? Maybe Batman will be punished for the dozens of people he brutally murdered in Batman v Superman? I jest, but it could happen.

What do you guys think? Do you wanna see Batman thrown in the mad house? Think this story has any legitimacy? Let me know in the comments below!
