Are you eatin’ though?
So this bit of news comes to us courtesy of Birth.Movies.Death, who have expanded on a story from The Wrap, which details that the currently untitled Star Wars Han Solo spin-off will feature a role for Lando Calrissian. While it currently remains unknown just how big or small of a part a young Lando would play in the upcoming anthology film, director duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller already have someone in mind for the part.
While there has yet to be any official offer to the actor, he is indeed Lord and Miller’s first choice to play the dashing rogue. Interestingly enough, after testing over a thousand different actors to take up the vest as the iconic Han Solo, Lord and Miller ended up going with their first choice, Alden Ehrenreich.
Personally, I hope this comes to fruition. I’ve been a huge fan of Glover’s work for quite some time, and while I’ve never once considered Glover for the role, I can kinda see it. Scratch that, I can definitely see it. Glover’s got both the dramatic and comedic chops (see his small role in The Martian, plus all of his work on Community), and I can see him slipping into the cape of Lando pretty damn well.
I’ve been pretty negative of the prospect of a young Han Solo movie since the beginning, but I’m slowly coming around to it. Lord and Miller are fantastic directors, and Ehrenreich was quite an inspired choice to play the famous smuggler. Now that Glover may potentially be in the mix, I’m actually starting to get pretty excited about this film, and that’s genuinely shocking to me.
The untitled Han Solo film is currently slated for release May 25th, 2018. We’ll keep you guys updated.
