Prepare for in internet meltdown in three…two…one…

Zendaya has been a part of the Spider-Man: Homecoming for quite some time now, and while the identities of her other cast members have promptly been revealed, her’s has remained a mystery. When the film was casting for parts, she was cast as a character named Michelle, but that was simply a place holder name. Now with a report coming out of The Wrap, her mystery character has finally been revealed.

Zendaya is playing Mary Jane Watson, the long time love interest of Peter Parker.

Now, I have next to no experience with Zendaya as an actress, so I can’t comment on that aspect of this story, but I absolutely love how progressive and diverse Sony and Marvel are making this cast. Serious props to them for casting this movie completely color blind. I do have to say, the enormous Spider-Man fan and comic book geek in me will miss the iconic red hair, but that’s not important in the long run.

I’m happy that MJ will play a role in this Spider-Man iteration, after her absence from the last go around (even though Shaileen Woodley was cast as the character before her role was cut in The Amazing Spider-Man 2), and the wet noodle of a character she was in the original Spider-Man trilogy. Hopefully the third time is the charm!

Marvel has yet to make any serious missteps within their casting department, so I’m confident this will be another knockout casting choice. I’m sure certain comic-book fans will be totally reasonable about this race-bending on Marvel’s part and not at all respond with vitriolic racism. I for one am pretty stoked about it. Anyway, here’s your Spider-Man: Homecoming cast:
