In which the Guardians fight a weird tentacle monster.
While we lowly peasants not lucky enough to have attend Hall H at Comic Con this year have yet to see any tangible footage of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it isn’t all bad. Our good friend James Gunn recently shared a bit of concept art for his highly anticipated sequel, and it’s pretty wacky.
Check this out:
Oh man do I love this. What the hell is that? Why are the Guardians fighting it? Why is Baby Groot so god damn adorable? So many questions, so few answers. We have little to no context at what exactly is going on in this concept art, other than the fact that Gunn has dubbed this monster “the Abelisk”, whatever that means.
My money is this scene being an intro mission for the Guardians, similar to the boat mission from The Winter Soldier and the raid on Strucker’s base from Age of Ultron. Whatever the context is, I’m excited to see the Guardians take on a giant floating alien squid dinosaur…thing.
With the news that Star Lord’s dad is going to be Ego the Living Planet, the newest member joining the Guardians a person with the antenna of a mantis, and now our good ole squid dinosaur, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is shaping up to be exquisitely weird. I can’t wait.
