“I’m going hurt you really, really, badly.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oscar award-winning actor Jared Leto has signed on to play renowned artist Andy Warhol in the biopic Warhol. The script will be penned by The Wolf of Wall Street writer Terrence Winter, as well as produced by Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Captain Phillips).
Now I may give Leto a lot of shit, deservedly so, for both his performance and off-screen antics as The Joker in Suicide Squad, but there is no denying that the guy is talented. I think he is the right choice to play Warhol in a biopic, a genuinely fascinating figure in the art world of the 1960s. Not only did he create engaging and elevating art, he was also openly gay before it was commonly accepted in America. This is right up Leto’s alley.
Winter did a fantastic job translating the insanity of Jordan Belfort’s life to a compelling script, so I am intrigued by the prospect of Warhol’s life getting a similar treatment. With De Luca producing, a man known for his success in producing biopics, Warhol is looking to have quite a lot going for it. This film reeks of potential.
