Remember that article I wrote a while back stating Benicio Del Toro might be starring in Shane Black’s Predator movie?

You do?

Well, forget about it!

Yes, a distressing piece of news broke today: Benicio Del Toro will not be starring in The Predator. The reason? Scheduling conflicts apparently. This news comes to us courtesy of THR, who had this to say:

Benicio Del Toro will no longer be hunting aliens, but Twentieth Century Fox is targeting a new hunter.

Del Toro has fallen out of negotiations with Fox to star in The Predator, the reboot of the alien action movie series that Shane Black is directing for the studio, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Hold on, I need a moment to collect myself after this heart-rending news…

Okay, I think I got it together. So if Del Toro isn’t signing on for The Predator, who the hell is gonna star in this thing?

…Fox is not sitting idly and has already pinpointed its new lead: Boyd Holbrook, one of the stars of Netflix’s drug cartel series Narcos.

Well, alright then. I am one of the plebs who has yet to actually hop on the Narcos train, so I can’t exactly comment on whether or not this news is good. The actor was apparently in Gone Girl, but I can’t for the life of me remember him in that film. That might not be a good sign actually. He also recently starred in this year’s Morgan, but having blocked that film completely from my memory, I won’t hold it against him.

While the news that Del Toro won’t be in the film is quite a bummer, this thing is still being directed by Shane freaking Black. That’s reason enough to get excited about The Predator. I’ll always bemoan what could have been, but I think this is going to be just fine.

What do you guys think of Holbrook’s casting? Upset about Del Toro leaving? Let me know in the comments below.
