The DC Cinematic universe is off to a rocky start (to put it mildly). Man of Steel was underwhelming, Batman v Superman was a sloppy mess, and Suicide Squad is by all accounts a dreadful film. But there is hope. To quote Batman v Superman: Men are still good.
Or should I say women? Here’s the official trailer for Wonder Woman:

God damn that Wonder Woman theme will never fail to get me pumped. This was a pretty awesome trailer. Themyscira looks gorgeous, and I dig the overall aesthetic of the Amazons, especially when contrasted against the film’s World War I backdrop. The action also looks great, if a little over-reliant on slow motion. I’m getting some serious 300 flashbacks. Hopefully it’s toned down a little in the finished product.
Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor looks like he is going to be great. We’ve only seen about a minute of footage of him, but I’m already really into his character. The angle that he is coming to the Amazons asking for their help to end the “war to end all wars” is an interesting one, although I am a bit saddened that this will probably be the only DC film we get to see Pine in, due to the film taking place 100years in the past.
I’m still not sold on Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, however. She certainly looks the part, but I was underwhelmed by her limited screen time in Batman v Superman, and her flat narration over this trailer did not do her in favors. I’m nervous as to whether or not she will be able to carry her own film. I guess time will tell.
All in all, this was a pretty good trailer. With that being said, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Suicide Squad all had fantastic trailers, and look how they turned out. I so badly want this to be good, but I’m approaching this film with severe caution. I’ve been burned by DC too many times.
We’re still a ways out from this film. Wonder Woman is set to hit theaters June 2nd, 2017. Plenty of time for Warner Brothers to butcher this film in the editing room.
I’m only joking. Sort of.
