Cars has always been Pixar’s worst franchise, a glorified toy commercial. Cars 3 is aiming to change that. Pixar looks like they are planning to shake things up with their animated kid’s franchise about sentient race cars with googly eyes by making an excessively dark teaser focused on personal trauma.
Check it out:
I can’t be the only one who thinks this looks goofy as hell. A franchise that is comprised of secret agent cars and a Larry the Cable Guy pickup truck looks like it’s planning to take itself seriously now. I’m sorry, but this looks hilariously over the top.
“From this moment, everything will change”? Come on Pixar.
The aesthetic of the film looks to have changed as well. This teaser’s animation style looks much more grounded and realistic than the past two entries. The fact that Pixar may be making a gritty Cars film is hysterical to me, and I’m morbidly curious to see how this turns out.
What did you guys think of this teaser? Are there any other franchises you’d like to see Pixar make a gritty sequel to? Maybe a Toy Story focused on human trafficking? Sound off in the comments below.
I thought it was a really cool trailer. Pixar often goes dark in sequels and I think this is just a dream sequence anyway. It really impressed me

It’s just such an odd tonal shift from previous Cars films. Although to be fair, I’m not too big on the franchise to begin with, so this trailer probably isn’t for me.

I know a lot of people liked the change but I can see how it wouldn’t be for everyone. The animation looks amazing though?

It indeed looks fantastic. Almost hyper realistic, reminds me of the all the landscape work that was done in The Good Dinosaur.
