In an interview with Variety, Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy let a few details slip on the type of film the Han Solo spin off would be. Kennedy described the film as being “closer to a heist or Western type feel”. She went on to cite the work of artist Frederic Remington as inspiration for the film, primarily through his use of primary colors in defining the western era.

Here’s an example of his work:

I was initially sour on the prospects of a Han Solo spin of film, but the more details we hear about it the more exited I get. I’m super into a colorful Star Wars western/heist film. Every single one of those descriptors is appealing. This is a perfect way to spin a fresh take on the Star Wars universe, and that’s an odd thing to say about a young Han Solo movie.

This is shaping up to be a real winner. With Phil Lord and Chris Miller behind the camera and Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke in front of the camera, this film has a lot going for it. These comments on the film’s tone only cement that idea.

What do you guys think? Do you dig the idea of a western/heist film set in the Star Wars universe? Sound off in the comments below.
