And it’s legitimately great.
Wes Anderson is back! Well, sort of. Anderson teamed up with frequent collaborator Adrien Brody and infrequent collaborator H&M for a Christmas themed short film titled Come Together that is sure to warm even the coldest, deadest of hearts.
I have a hard time classifying this as news, because when you boil this story down to its bare essentials, it’s just an ad for H&M. Nevertheless, this short film still features Wes Anderson trying to out Wes Anderson himself and it is legitimately delightful.
So sit down, grab your favorite chocolate flavored hot beverage, and get Christmassy as fuck:
All of the classic Wes Anderson quirks on display here: the characteristically flat acting, the two-dimensional plane of movement, the pleasing color palette, and the overall whimsical and engaging tone. While this is still an advertisement for H&M, it’s a damn good one. In fact, I think the world would be much better off if more advertisements were like this. At least our society’s slow and agonizing capitalistic death wouldn’t be as depressing. Ah, the joyous Christmas spirit.
Now that we’re on the subject, this has got me thinking about how great a feature-length Wes Anderson Christmas film would be, it’s a combination of two of the world’s greatest things. Although, I think we can all agree that any Wes Anderson content is good content, so beggars can’t be choosers.
