Well, it’s finally here. The trailer for Christopher Nolan’s long-awaited World War II epic, Dunkirk, has finally arrived. Let’s not waste any time and get right to this thing:
Alright, let’s get one thing out-of-the-way: For the most part, I like this trailer. I think this movie is going to be awesome. That being said, did anyone else find this to be a tad underwhelming? The cinematography looks beautiful, the action looks great, and it has an amazing cast (Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, and Mark Rylance? Sold.) but there is this lingering feeling that something is missing. I can’t quite put my finger on it.
Nevertheless, this is another Nolan movie, which is enough to get excited about. Plus, it’ll be nice to see a WWII film from the British side. We should all feel lucky that this dude is able to command these giant budgets for original films not based on toys or comic books. That’s quite rare these days. While I am a bit let down by this trailer, Dunkirk remains one of my most anticipated films of next year.
Here’s a synopsis:
Dunkirk opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.
Dunkirk flies into theaters July 21, 2017. We’ll probably all be going. Here’s a cool poster.
