After going into cardiac arrest on an inbound flight to Los Angeles, Carrie Fisher has passed away at the age of sixty. The family issued the following statement (via People):
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” reads the statement.
“She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly,” says Lourd. “Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
Carrie Fisher left an immeasurable mark on cinema, paving the way for women in the business like few others have. While she found success with films such as Hannah and her Sisters, When Harry Met Sally, and The Blues Brothers (as well as acting as a script doctor on a multitude of films), she will forever be immortalized by her iconic and groundbreaking role as the lovable and witty bad ass that was Star Wars’ Princess Leia. Fisher inspired generations of young women to kick ass. A true hero in every sense of the word.
