Well, this is lame.
Cliff Martinez, the legendary composer of countless classic scores (Drive, The Neon Demon, Only God Forgives, Spring Breakers), was originally set to score James Mangold’s Logan, the final chapter of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine saga.
Unfortunately, that no longer appears to be the case, as per a tweet by Mangold himself:
For reasons unknown, Martinez has seemingly gone separate ways from the project, with Mangold-regular Marco Beltrami taking his place. Beltrami composed the score for Mangold’s previous The Wolverine and 3:10 to Yuma, as well as The Woman in Black and the Scream franchise.
Beltrami is certainly a talented composer in his own right, but I can’t help but feel extremely disappointed that we are missing out on the chance to hear what a Cliff Martinez superhero score sounds like.
Oh well. Logan still looks fucking great, and I’m counting down the days until its March 3rd release date.
