Phil Lord and Chris Miller have made a career out of turning terrible ideas into fantastic movies. The Jump Street franchise, The Lego Movie, and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs all had no right to be as good as they are, but somehow Lord and Miller pulled it off. Their latest venture, a young Han Solo movie, sounded as equally a bad idea as all of their other films, but god damn if they haven’t been making all the right moves.
Veteran film and television actor Woody Harrelson is stepping aboard the upcoming Han Solo movie set to arrive in theaters next year.
“We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody,” said the film’s directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. “His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique. He is also very good at ping pong.”
Harrelson should be a fantastic addition to the Star Wars universe. The dude is a supremely talented actor and freaking hilarious at times. Rumor is that Harrelson’s character well act as something as a mentor to our young Han Solo, which is a role he would fit into beautifully (hell, he already did in the Hunger Games franchise).
So yeah, as has been my reaction to every piece of news about this young Han Solo movie, I’m into it. Lord and Miller seem to have a good head on their shoulders when it comes to this stuff, and Young Han Solo looks like it’s shaping up to be quite a fun romp through the wild west of a galaxy far, far, away.
An interesting side note, the movie was originally set to release in May of next year, but with The Force Awakens and Rogue One experiencing massive success in December, many assumed that Han Solo would similarly be pushed back to the holiday season. This latest press release states that the film is simply slated for 2018, not mentioning the month of May. To me, this hints to a December release, but make of it what you will.
