Rupert Sanders’ live-action remake of Ghost in the Shell is kind of hard to talk about without mentioning the white-washed elephant in the room, though at this point it has been discussed at such a length that nothing new will come of it. At this point, we either roll with it, or we don’t.

I myself am rolling with it, because this movie looks really awesome. As made evident by this latest trailer that features a ton of new footage, including new characters and set pieces.

Let’s check it out:

Holy heck is this movie cool looking. There are some beautiful and inventive visuals on display here. I’m completely in love with this film’s visual aesthetic (Kaiju-sized advertisements!), which looks to remain fairly faithful to the original anime (besides, you know, character race). Everything looks bonkers and it looks like the film is playing that totally straight. I admire that kind of earnest insanity that Ghost in the Shell seems to be going for. Plus, I could watch Scarlett Johansson kick cyborg ass all day. Plus I’m really digging the whole goggle thing that one dude has goin’ on.

For those not in the know (like myself), here’s a plot synopsis to discern the craziness that occurred in that two-minute trailer:

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, GHOST IN THE SHELL follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

Ghost in the Shell hits theaters March 31st. You into this weirdness? Let me know in the comments below
