This project’s off to a good start.
In a surprise move, The Jungle Book’s Jon Favreau announced today on Twitter that none other than Donald Glover (Atlant, the upcoming Han Solo movie) will portray Simba in his live action version of The Lion King.
As far as I’m aware, this is the first bit of casting news we’ve received regarding Favreau’s upcoming project. Nevertheless, I approve of this choice wholeheartedly. Glover is an extremely talented dude. He’s able to deftly balance comedy and drama while maintaining a youthful charisma. While his name would have never come to mind if you were to ask me who should play Simba in the live action Lion King, I’m sure glad it came to Favreau’s.
Favreau knocked it out of the park with last year’s Jungle Book. With the casting of Glover as the lead, he’s off to a good start with The Lion King. We’ll keep you updated as this project develops.
What do you guys think of Glover’s casting? Think he’ll make a good Simba? Let me know in the comments below.
UPDATE: Jon Favreau also announced via Twitter that James Earl Jones would return to once again voice Mufasa. Sometimes, you just can’t beat the original.
