Terrence Mallick’s long-awaited Song to Song has finally received a trailer, after literally five years of waiting. Seriously, this thing was shot in 2012 for crying out loud. Anyway, the film stars Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender, Rooney Mara, and Natalie Portman as they try and navigate their way around the Austin music scene and Malick’s constant roaming camera. And if recent reports are anything to go by, Fassbender may be playing some type of Lucifer character?
I’m not completely sure what this all about, let’s check it out:
While Malick might not always quite hit the mark (to put it lightly), I’m on board for this. Song to Song has one hell of a cast (in addition to the previously mentioned members, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Haley Bennett, Val Kilmer, Benicio Del Toro and Holly Hunter are all in this as well), an intriguing premise, and the always beautiful Malick visual flair. At the very least, this will be a very nice film to look at. I’m looking forward to this. Although, if last year’s Knight of Cups is anything to go by, maybe we should approach this one with a bit of caution, eh? You never know with Malick.
Here’s the synopsis:
In this modern love story set against the Austin, Texas music scene, two entangled couples — struggling songwriters Faye (Rooney Mara) and BV (Ryan Gosling), and music mogul Cook (Michael Fassbender) and the waitress whom he ensnares (Natalie Portman) — chase success through a rock ‘n’ roll landscape of seduction and betrayal.
Song to Song premieres March 10th at SXSW.
