In the latest release in the marketing blitz for Alien: Covenant, 20th Century Fox unveiled the prologue for the film, directed by none other than Ridley Scott’s son, Luke. The clip is titled The Last Supper. A bit weird for a piece of marketing, but hey, it lets us get to know our group of protagonists before their inevitable deaths in the film.

God, how great is Michael Fassbender?
I’m into this clip. I like the sense of camaraderie it establishes between the various crew members before shit hits the fan. While the interactions between everyone here are fun, the clip has an innate sense of foreboding and dread. This is an Alien film after all. I’m reminded of the dinner scene in the original Alien, just before our little chestburster friend makes his debut appearance.
This Alien iteration has a much more sprawling cast than previous entries, with the crew composed of Michael Fassbender, Danny McBride, James Franco, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Demián Bichir, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Nathaniel Dean, Callie Hernandez, Alexander England, Carmen Ejogo, and Benjamin Rigby. That’s a lot of people who are about to die. Hopefully, McBride and his bad ass cowboy hat will be the one to pull through, but I’m not holding my breath.
The Alien franchise has had a rough go lately. While Scott’s previous Prometheus was a serious letdown, I’m holding out hope that Alien: Covenant marks a return to form for the classic sci-fi franchise. Based on everything we’ve seen so far, I’m optimistic.
Alien: Covenant hits theaters May 19th. You going or nah?
