Thanks to our friends from IndieWire, we now know that The Irishman, Martin Scorcese’s long-awaited crime epic, will officially begin production this August. Not only that, but this thing is going to have a budget of a whopping $100 million dollars, thanks to the generous wallets of Netflix. Yeah, the next Scorcese movie is going to debut on Netflix.
The film is set to star mob movie legends Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel, and Robert De Niro. Oh, and Bobby Cannavale. Apparently, De Niro will also be de-aged by technology to a ripe 30 years old.
So, besides the interesting tidbit that De Niro will be de-aged in this thing (I can’t imagine anyone topping the job done on Kurt Russell in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), The Irishman is shaping up pretty well! I mean, god, look at that cast! De Niro, Keitel, Pacino, and Joe Pesci? It’s like Scorsese is taking all of the great gangster movies ever made in mixing them together. When was the last time Joe Pesci was even in a movie?
Netflix is apparently aiming for a 2019 release, which means we have quite the wait ahead of us. I’m just excited that this movie is finally coming together. The Irishman is finally happening. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go rewatch Goodfellas.
