As I’m sure you guys are aware, Spider-Man: Homecoming (and the rest of the MCU) has seen it’s fair share of terrible posters, but guys, this new one takes the cake.
Let’s take one looksie, shall we?
This poster certainly does not make me want to experience this in IMAX. Look, I get what this was going for, I do: that irreverent, childish, slightly tongue-in-cheek high-school feel. But this feels like a massive swing-and-a-miss. The poster is meant to look like a home-made yearbook collage, but it really just looks like some underpaid interns at Marvel’s marketing department vomited up random stills from the film.
Actually, I’d like to take this moment to shine a little light on some of the genuinely great posters we’ve gotten for this film. I for one could use the eye-bleach.
Check these out:
See Marvel? You guys are obviously capable of delivering some kick-ass posters. Let’s see more of these instead of that IMAX abomination, eh?
Snarkiness aside, Spider-Man: Homecoming arrives soon, and the positive buzz for it from early critic reactions has us very excited for it. Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters July 7th. Who knows what other horrors Marvel’s poster team will inflict upon us by then?
