Well, we’re exactly one week away from the official release of Spider-Man: Homecoming. By almost all accounts the film is fantastic, which is why I’d elected to try and refrain from reading any spoilers. But for this particular piece of news, I couldn’t resist.
AS you may or may not be aware, Better Call Saul actor Michael Mando has a brief role in Spider-Man: Homecoming. While that on its own isn’t particularly newsworthy, the actor took to Instagram to tease his role in the film to those familiar with Spider-Man mythos.
Now, here’s your last chance in case you don’t want to be spoiled.
That’s right! Turns out Michael Mando is playing Mac Gargan, also known as the supervillain, Scorpion!
Now, with Vulture, Tinkerer, Shocker, and (redacted) already set to face off against Spider-Man in Homecoming, I highly doubt we see Mando suit up as the Scorpion. Perhaps he’ll be the villain in the Homecoming sequel? Or maybe this is simply a nice easter egg for fans of the character.
Scorpion being the villain in Homecoming 2 would jive with Kevin Feige’s comments about wanting to introduce new Spider-Man rogues instead of redoing villains seen in previous Spidey incarnations. If Marvel does plan on using Scorpion in the MCU, then that most likely means a reintroduction to none other than J. Jonah Jameson, a character integral to Scorpion’s origin story. I pity whoever tries to live up to J.K. Simmons tenure as the character.
