Thanks to a report from Deadline, we now know that Chris Pratt’s Cowboy Ninja Viking movie is set to release on June 28th, 2019. If you’re like me, you’re left wondering “what the hell is a Cowboy Ninja Viking?” and well, let me just let our old friend Mr. Plot Synopsis educate us:

“Pratt plays a guy who is a new kind of assassin who manifests the toughest skills of three different personas: Cowboy, Ninja and Viking. No director has been announced yet.”

Well, this sounds utterly ridiculous. Hell, it sounds like something Andy Dwyer would cook up in his mind on Parks and Recreation. Apparently, this thing is based on an actual Image comic book by A.J. Lieberman and Riley Rossmo, also titled Cowboy Ninja Viking. In the brief time spent investigating this wacky thing, I learned that the original comic is actually pretty well received. Maybe there’s hope for this thing after all.

As Deadline reports, the film has yet to find a director. This sounds like a project that will live or die on its choice of director. Apparently, Chad Stahleski and David Leitch of John Wick fame were attached to this at one point, but, unfortunately, have since left the project. As to who will wind up in the director’s chair, your guess is as good as mine. If you had to ask me, I’d say this seems like a perfect property for Phil Lord and Chris Miller. As far as I know, they don’t have any projects lined up after receiving the boot from the Untitled Han Solo movie. If the Cowboy Ninja Viking producers had any sense, they’d get these guys on the line ASAP.

Well, until then, keep it tuned here to Caffeinated Film all of your up-to-date monstrously important Cowboy Ninja Viking news.
