We can see them.
Well, here’s a story I never imagined writing about. Thanks to a report from Deadline, the existence of a buddy cop movie starring Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick) and WWE superstar/man I can’t see John Cena (Trainwreck) is currently in the works. The film will be directed by Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer, presumably after he finishes up with ill-advised Venom film.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I kind of love this idea. The pairing is so goddamn random and odd. I can’t even imagine the dynamic the two will have, but with how insanely different they are, I can only see good things coming from this pairing.
I’m happy to see Kumail blowing up after The Big Sick. The dudes wildly talented. Coupled with the surprising comedic chops of Cena, and this seems like a lighting in a bottle sort of idea. I’d love to see the two play against type, with Nanjiani being the maverick loose-cannon cop who plays by his own roles, and Cena being the by the book follow the rules guy. This idea is already pretty absurd, I say go all the way with it.
No other details about the film are available at this time, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
