The mind behind Ex Machina returns.
The teaser trailer for Alex Garland’s Annihilation is finally here. Let’s check it out:
Holy shit, this looks incredible and weird. I’m always down for some weird sci-fi hijinks, and this seems to have that in spades. I love the surreal vibe it has going on with the glowing alien rainbow goo. This trailer is giving off vibes similar to last year’s Arrival, which I absolutely adored. Apparently, this film is based on a short novel with heavy Lovecraftian influences. Whereas Lovecraft is usually subtle, this looks to be in your face with craziness. I dig it. Garland has more than earned my trust.
This will be Garland’s second directed feature, following up the excellent Ex Machina. I’m glad to see him branching out more with directing. The dude has always been a fantastic science fiction screenwriter, with 28 Days Later, Sunshine, and Dredd all under his belt. Ex Machina more than proved he’s a powerhouse director as well.
This thing has one hell of a cast to boot. Oscar Isaac has returned to reteam with Garland. Joining him is Natalie Portman, who is almost always great (Thor films excluded). Rounding out the cast we have Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, and Benedict Wong, who are all extremely talented in their own right.
Annihilation hits theaters February 23, 2018. We can’t wait.
